Welcome to my first blog post! I have just finished setting up my second WordPress website and I am now starting to fill in the gaps. My first website was great, but I accidentally deleted it via FTP because I thought it was one of my old sites that I don’t use anymore. I’m glad I learnt my lesson early on and not after I’d packed it full of pages and images!
I have shied away from creating my own website for years due to a number of reasons; I felt big headed, I thought nobody would want to visit, my layouts were often old fashioned, I felt obliged to keep it up to date, I didn’t want the commitment and so on.
So why am I doing it now? Well, it’s a combination of having to learn how to use WordPress for my voluntary job and as I’ve gotten older, I’m starting to worry less about what people think of me and trying to do more things that I enjoy. And right now I am enjoying working on this website and [almost] enjoying photography!
The reason I say ‘almost’ enjoying photography is because I am far too self critical and I still haven’t learnt to ignore the fact that some people will never be a fan of my work. I also strive for perfection and when I don’t achieve it, I feel like a failure. It took me a while to feel comfortable posting my images to Instagram and Flickr, but I’m content to do that now, which is a great achievement for me. Going forward, I hope I can learn how to appreciate my own work and realise how far I have come. Watch this space!
